Nic is going to Burning Man this year. He better bring back pictures of some of this craziness.

“The harps are three separate but unified light instruments. At burning man, each day the harps will be reconfigured to form various larger forms… first a walking path, second a separation as 3 unique entities, and last a combined spiral maze. Each night, as the playa cranium is lit the harps will slowly begin to glow.

Walking and moving within the beams will create sound (each beam a pallet of different sounds including musical tone, atmospheric and meditative rhythm, and sampled whispers of recorded voices whispering their own dreams.)

You can simply wander the harps shape, playing each beam in the path, or you can navigate on your own….creating your own sound and whispered samples.”

Bob Moog died on Sunday, Aug 21st, at his home in N.C. While it’s a sad moment that such an important man to electronic music has left us, his impression has been made and the Moog name will no doubt continue to influence music for many years to come. Here’s to Bob Moog.

Bruce Haack was an innovator to say the least. He built his own instruments and then did some very interesting things.

The Dermatron (an instrument that was played by leading an electrical current through another person)

Dig this little excerpt from Bruce Haack’s ‘Electric Lucifer Book 2′ (props to my bro Tony for turnin me on to this shit).

There’s a tribute album being released on Aug. 23rd. The album, ‘Dimension Mix‘, will feature, among others, Beck, Stereolab (the first 2 tracks!) and Money Mark!

The movie, Haack A.K.A. Bruce Haack – The King of Techno, will be released tomorrow (Friday Aug. 12th). Check out the trailer below.

1 lb 40L Cara-pils Crystal Malt
1 lb Flaked Wheat
1 can Light LME
1 can Wheat LME
1 oz lemon zest
.3 oz cracked Seeds of Paridise
1.5 oz Hallertau hop pellets
1 slap pack Belgian Witbier Yeast (3944)

Steeped crystal malt and flaked wheat for 45 minutes at around 160 deg F. Removed grains and brought to boil. Added liquid extract. After a rolling boil added 1 oz Hallertau hops. Boiled for 40 minutes and added wort chiller. Added lemon zest and crushed seeds. Removed from heat. Using a grain bag I steeped the final .5 oz of Hallertau hops for 5 minutes and removed. Added to cold water in 6 gallon glass carboy. Pitched yeast with an original gravity of 1.055.

O.G. 1.055
F.G. – stay tuned

I wanted to share the description of the yeast I used.

3944 Belgian Witbier Yeast
Probable origin: Hoegaarden, Belgium
Beer Styles: White Beer, Grand Cru, Doubles, Spiced beers
Commercial examples may include: Celis Wit, Hoegaarden, Blanc de Brugge
Unique properties: A yeast with complex flavor profile which produces a spicey phenolic character with low ester production. Phenols tend to dominate most flavors and dissipates with age. Ferments fairly dry with a finish which compliments malted and unmalted wheat and oats. Sometimes used in conjunction with lactic acid bacteria to produces a sharper finish. This strain may be a slow starting yeast with true top cropping characteristics. Flocculation is low, with yeast staying suspended with proteins in a well designed beer. Alcohol tolerance approximately 10-11% ABV. Flocculation – medium; apparent attenuation 72-76%. (62-75° F, 16-24° C)

Well, I guess we could see this coming.

Charlie Murphy:

” ‘Chappelle’s Show’ is over, man. Done,”

I can’t imagine that Dave Chappelle would just fall off the planet, we’ll see more from him. He keeps it real.

This is an audio recording done by my friend Tim Nunnink of the sickest storm I’ve ever had the experience seeing/hearing. This sound clip doesn’t really do it justice.
