yield: 5 gallons

Ingredients:

3.3 lbs. Munton’s Light LME
2 lbs. Munton’s Light DME
1 0z Cascade hop pellets (Boil)
1 oz Cascade full leaf hops (Finish)
1 pkg. Muntons Brewing Yeast

Pretty simple. Brought the water to a boil, added the malt extra (liquid and dry) and brought back to boil. It started to foam a lot so i had to remove it from heat and stir and bring to boil and repeat until the foaming subsided. Then I added the boiling hops (this is where the bitterness comes from). Boiled for about 40 minutes then added the finishing hops which provide aroma and flavor for the last couple minutes.

Removed from heat and added to 3 gallons of cold water in plastic fermenter (bucket). Then added more cold water to bring it to 5 gallons. Let sit to cool. Once the temp was below 75 deg F I pitched the package of yeast and attached lid and airlock. Before closing off I took a hydrometer reading of 1.040.

Feb. 7th 2004:
Took hydrometer reading of 1.010 for two consecutive days meaning initial fermentation has ceased. Time to bottle. :)
Bottled with 5 oz priming sugar to 45 12 oz bottles.
Alcohol content: 1.040-1.010 = .030 / 7.36 (don’t ask) = .004076 + 0005 = .0045 x 100 = 4.5% alc.

Feb. 16th 2004:
Tasted it and it’s pretty good. A really rich flavor.

I saw this on slashdot today. It’s not anywhere near perfect but it’s a good first step. I was wondering when someone would come up with something like this. I thought it would be one of the software companies but it probably took a lot of R & D and Yamaha’s got lots of money to spend. I wonder if they’ll ever start combining their products. You know you’ve always wanted a jet ski that can burn CDs and has a built in digital piano. Life is but a dream…

There are a bunch of other samples but this was the best example.

CBS refused to air this anti-Bush ad during the Super Bowl. This should cause some nice controversy.

So finally Seinfeld is coming to DVD. Though without the blessing of 3 of the 4 main characters (George, Kramer, and Elaine). They felt they didn’t get enough money from the show and don’t want to be involved with the DVD. I find that disgusting considering each of them makes $100,000 a year just from reruns and was making $600,000 an episode the last season!! Anyways, who gives a shit, just give us the episodes.

Nintendo just announced a new game system. It’s going to have 2 screens and probably have graphics similar to N64. Sounds cool. I guess I’ll have to get one since I have every other Nintendo system made (except the Virtual Boy, and any of the ones released in Japan).

“To arrive at the edge of the world’s knowledge, seek out the most complex
sophisticated minds, put them in a room together, and have them ask each
other the questions they are asking themselves.” — this is the mission statement of Edge.org.

I’ve read some interesting stuff on and off on The Edge over the last few years…but a recent post was particularly fun to read. The entry asked its contributors What’s Your Law? –asking them to share “some bit of wisdom, some rule of nature, some law-like pattern, either grand or small, that you’ve noticed in the universe that might as well be named after you”.

So what computer(s) do you use? Is it a shitbox or a Mac? I have both. I’ll go first. (for the record, I used to like windows until I had to support it)

Desktop: Dell Dimension 1.6 GHz, DVD-Rom, CD-RW, 2 x 30 GB HD, 768 RAM
Laptop: Apple – PowerBook G4 12″ 1 GHz, CD-RW/DVD, 40 GB HD, 768 RAM, Airport Extreme and Bluetooth (I’ve only had this thing since October and all I can say is I’ll never be without one again.)

I have the two systems KVM’d with a Belkin 4 Port KVM, a View Sonic 18″ Flat Panel, Apple Keyboard, and Microsoft Trackball Explorer. I also have an 80 hour TiVo (soon to be hacked into a 180 hour), an Xbox, Gamecube, and Gameboy Advanced SP. (Man I have a lot of shit, you don’t realize it till you write it out like this.)

“. . . imagine a puddle waking up one morning and thinking, ‘This is an interesting world I find myself in; an interesting hole I find myself in; fits me rather neatly, doesn’t it? In fact it fits me staggeringly well, must have been made to have me in it!’ This is such a powerful idea that as the sun rises in the sky and the air heats up and as, gradually, the puddle gets smaller and smaller, it’s still frantically hanging on to the notion that everything’s going to be alright, because this world was meant to have him in it, was built to have him in it; so the moment he disappears catches him rather by surprise. I think this may be something we need to be on the watch out for.” -Douglas Adams

Microsoft has got balls I’ll give em that. I can’t believe they could even THINK about commenting about another companies partnership and say it’s “unfair” Will we ever see the end of their bullshit? I doubt it.

Reuters, 1/9/2004: In the most important scientific discovery in at least a few days, inventor and world changer Hymanator III discovered a new physical property: sleep gravity. That’s right, the strange force that keeps you in bed when you should probably be getting up. Some days sleep gravity is high and somedays it’s low. But its still unclear on what causes sleep gravity to flux. Some initial theories are: too much beer, and having nothing to do that day. What else are the causes?
