Press TV – US lawmaker: Recession result of war

“I think actually the spending in the war might help with jobs…because we’re buying equipment, and people are working. I think this economy is down because we built too many houses and the economy’s adjusting,” he said in the NBC’s Today Show on Feb 18th.

OMFGLOLOLOLOLOL!!!

So apparently someone duct taped some cd players under pews that were set to play foul language during service. The police were called…and yep…you guessed it…they blew them up!! Only 2 of them though. Cuz, you know, they had to save one to check for DNA. ????

Ok seriously folks. WTF is going on? Are we really blowing shit up, THEN deciding it’s not dangerous.

Authorities determined the music players were not dangerous and kept the third one to check it for clues, said police Capt. Gary Johnson.

Update: It seems that in my drunken stupor I failed to realize this is old news and there’s already a season 3. Thanks Paul, you frickin a-hole.

Arrested Development has been picked up for Season 3. Says Peter Liguori, President, Entertainment for Fox:

ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT is one of the best comedies on television. The decision to order another season becomes easy when you consider its amazing cast, creative brilliance, critical acclaim and advertiser appeal,” said Liguori. “It’s my first official pick-up since taking the job, and I think it’s a great way to start.”

Sigh….Where do I even begin. How about here:

According to Jarvis, the student, who remains anonymous, was just doing his assignment, illustrating the right to dissent. But over at the Kitty Hawk Wal-Mart, where the student took his film to be developed, this right is evidently suspect.

An employee in that Wal-Mart photo department called the Kitty Hawk police on the student. And the Kitty Hawk police turned the matter over to the Secret Service. On Tuesday, September 20, the Secret Service came to Currituck High.

The student put a tack through a picture of W and took a picture of it. Then Wal-Mart saw the picture when developing it and called the police. Wow.

Bob Moog died on Sunday, Aug 21st, at his home in N.C. While it’s a sad moment that such an important man to electronic music has left us, his impression has been made and the Moog name will no doubt continue to influence music for many years to come. Here’s to Bob Moog.

Well, I guess we could see this coming.

Charlie Murphy:

” ‘Chappelle’s Show’ is over, man. Done,”

I can’t imagine that Dave Chappelle would just fall off the planet, we’ll see more from him. He keeps it real.

Mansfield City Schools (Ohio) are ditching the DARE program after 15 years. For those of you who didn’t have the pleasure of going through the DARE program, it was supposed to educate students about the hazards of drug use. Really all it did was over-generalize, misinform, and, in some cases, utterly lie about drugs and their effect on the body. Why not tell kids the truth?

“Kids deserve (DARE) and they need it,” Day said. “I can understand wanting to improve academics but does DARE not involve reading and writing?”

If by reading and writing you mean copying definitions and reading them back to yourself, then yea.

Update (7/27 9 pm): DJ Mag is charting Soul Music at #12!

The Shadow Kings (of which I’m a contributing member) have a single coming out on August 1st and it’s already being charted on many sites. Including Traxsource.com where we made it as high as number 2 on their top 15 and now it’s the pick of the week at Spirit of House. Here’s what they had to say:

Undo Records bless us with a truly soulful release courtesy of The Shadow Kings and featured vocalist David Walker. The original take is spreading an organic live feeling through the instrumentation that includes guitar and saxophone together with a deep and funky bassline, with the passionate lead and background vocals creating an incredible feeling. Richard Earnshaw’s interpretation makes just subtle changes to it by adding a jazzy piano line and a smoothly stompin’ groove, while the Native New Yorkers use a deeply stormin’ groove together with melodic keys and a wicked guitar riff.

“The court finds that the president has no power, neither expressed nor implied, neither constitutional nor statutory, to hold petitioner as an enemy combatant,”

I’m thinkin a lot of the things he’s done probably fall under that statement.

Well it’s a good start.

The Count Every Vote Act of 2005 will provide a voter verified paper ballot for every vote cast in electronic voting machines. To encourage more citizens to exercise their right to vote, the Count Every Vote Act designates Election Day a federal holiday and requires early voting in each state. The bill also makes it a federal crime to commit deceptive practices, such as sending flyers into minority neighborhoods telling voters the wrong voting date, and makes these practices a felony punishable by up to a year of imprisonment.

Jimmy Smith was found dead in his home in Arizona on Feb. 8th. He’s Back at the big Chicken Shack in the sky. *sniff*

Jimmy Smith was the man, I saw him a couple times while at Berklee. He played at the House of Blues and was amazing. Here’s a man that could barely walk to the stage yet exuded more energy when he played than I thought possible. He still played the pedals, and I quote:

Raspy old black man voice: “I’m playin’ these fuckin’ pedals.” Taps the pedals, “My legs are fuckin’ tired.”

Priceless.

We’ll miss ya Jimmy!

Something is very, very wrong when a cartoon like Spongebob Squarepants is criticized for encouraging tolerance and diversity. I’m really at a loss on this one. I mean the title of this article is “Christians issue gay warning on SpongeBob video.” It doesn’t get any more ridiculous sounding than that. I love this line:

“SpongeBob, who lives in a pineapple under the sea, was ‘outed’ by the U.S. media in 2002…”

lol, he lives in a pineapple under the sea in case anyone was wondering! Frickin awesome!
